Pros and Cons of Paperless Wedding Invitations

The past couple years have been quite unpredictable thanks to this global pandemic. Plans were changed on a moment's notice, and we all had to be a little bit flexible than we would like to be. We saw a lot of changes in the way things are done with weddings. With the changes, we also saw a surge of paperless wedding invitations (more casually known as wedding evites!). Wedding Evites are wonderful, but when deciding whether or not to send them out, there are a few things to consider. Today, we are going to share the pros and cons of paper wedding invitations!

Before we get started talking about wedding invitations, let us quickly introduce our stunning wedding venue in Upstate New York. If you are looking for a domestic destination wedding location in the US, we would love for you to get in touch and book a tour here. Weekend weddings are our specialty and if you are dreaming of a rustic, farmhouse getaway to enjoy from a Friday night rehearsal to a Sunday brunch, you are in the right place. You can learn more about our Hudson Valley wedding packages here, or learn more about the venue here.

Pros of Wedding Evites

There are a few benefits to paperless wedding invitations so let’s talk about those first. The first, and most important, is that when you collect your guests emails or phone numbers, you can send updates out effortlessly. If you need to change anything last minute, or communicate important information with your guests, you can do so in just a few short clicks.

As an Upstate New York wedding venue, we know that many of our couples have some, if not most, of their guests coming from out of town. One advantage of wedding evites is that your guests can open them and get all the details no matter where they are. They don’t need to pack the physical invitation with them to remind themselves of the wedding ceremony time or cocktail hour location.

Last but not least, they are the most affordable option. The cost is almost negligible when comparing them to traditional wedding invitations. You can find free options, or take advantage of extra features (like online RSVP’s - which make your life a LOT easier) for a small cost.

Cons of Wedding Evites

With all of the pros of wedding evites, we can't help but mention why we still love traditional wedding invitations. After all, you have spent a lot of time and money planning your wedding day, and your invitations are your guests’ first impression. They really set the tone and get your guests excited to celebrate with you on your wedding day. In a world where all that most of us get in the mail are bills and flyers, nothing brings joy quite like a beautiful wedding invitation, with your name in gorgeous calligraphy. Traditional wedding invitations make your guests feel incredibly special, and give your guests the chance to get excited for your wedding day.

We know that so many of our wedding couples are scrapping tradition and bringing their own flair to their wedding day. We LOVE to see all the fun and unique ideas our couples come to us with. With that said, not all of your guests might feel as comfortable with switching to modern wedding evites. Some guests may not be as familiar with online applications, and might have a bit of trouble gathering the information and RSVP-ing correctly. More than that, one tradition many of your guests may have is saving your wedding invitations as a keepsake. Wedding evites are a little bit lackluster in sentimental value.

Sending Out Wedding Invitations (Digitally or in the Mail)

Whether you are sending wedding evites or working with a custom wedding invitation designer, one thing we have all learned in 2020 and 2021 is that we can’t take anything for granted. No matter how you choose to invite your guests, they will be excited to be invited. To avoid some of the most frequently asked questions, don’t forget to include information about accommodations as well (you can find details about The Preston Barn accommodations here). If you are planning an Upstate New York wedding and are still looking for your dream barn wedding venue, head here to book a tour and receive more information about our wedding venue!
